1. Q: Is the generator automatic, or do I have to turn it on and off?
A: It is automatic. The automatic transfer switch (ATS) controls all operations and monitors all power for the generator system. The unit needs no assistance from the homeowner to operate.

2. How long will I be without power before the generator comes on?
A: The generator will start 7 seconds after power is lost. The ATS will switch to generator power 3 seconds after the generator starts, thus providing you power approximately 10 seconds after power is lost.

3. What type of gas does the generator run on?
A: The units can run on natural gas or liquid propane. They are connected directly to your fuel source and don't need to be filled up to function. For clients with special fuel needs, we can also provide diesel-powered units.

4. Can I run my air conditioner with the generator?
A: Yes. Kohler heavy-duty engines provide stronger, faster response to power generating needs because of their digital spark advance module (DSAM). This module optimizes the timing for LP and Natural Gas, which results in greater power and motor starting capability.
The Kohler 12 RES is the only 12kW in the industry that will start and run a 4-ton air conditioner with 26 Amps of load already on the generator.

5. How loud is it?
A: The Kohler unit is VERY quiet, running at 65dB. This is the approximate equivalent of a normal vacuum cleaner. All units have sound attenuation housings, with critical silencer mufflers restricting the noise emissions. Other manufacturer units run at over 70dB, which is MUCH louder.

6. How big is it?
A: The 12kW RES is about the size of a normal air conditioning unit. It is 42" long, 30" wide and 30" tall. It is beige in color and will blend easily with the landscaping of most any home.

7. Can I plant bushes or trees around the unit to conceal it?
A: Yes. However, a minimum of three feet clearance is required for maintenance on all sides. The exhaust end requires 8 feet of clearance for proper ventilation.
